dear scarlett,
happy new year and 4 months to my little bug!
we celebrated your first xmas and new year's. your lola was in town and your auntie lyn, uncle henry, and cousins jourdan, kristian, and noelle all came to visit. they loved you to pieces! on xmas eve, we went out to brunch, then uncle henry, who is a pastor, did a really short blessing for you on the beach. maybe it would've been longer, but you were crying so i took you right after the blessing, plopped down on a bench in front of the beach and fed you. it was a beautiful san diego day. i was so grateful for the warm sun and being able to breastfeed my baby while looking at the ocean.
on xmas day we went to visit more cousins in temecula. it was very nice because everyone wanted to hold you so me and daddy got to relax and watch tv and mingle with the cousins.
for new year's eve, we weren't sure about going out because you got your first cold. it was a little scary because you would cough and sometimes look like you're choking on your saliva. the day after xmas was the worst day. usually when i bring you to the mirror, you are all smiley. but this time, you gave a little half smile and started crying. that's when i knew you weren't feeling good. my poor baby =(
but by nye, you were much better. still coughing a little but no more choking looks. we got invited to 2 parties so we decided to check them out, since they were both close by our house. the first party was at auntie char and uncle ilde's house. we just met them this year and they are nice people. they have a baby girl too named izzy. there were lots of other kids there, and we met a couple that had twin boys that are 2 days older than you. i used to think having twins was the cutest thing ever. but after you were born, i pitied anyone that had more than 1 baby at a time. it's so tough with just one!!! the poor father of those twins was telling us horror story after horror story. it made me very grateful to just have you.
the 2nd party was very low key. thankfully you were so tired at the first party that you fell asleep on the way to the 2nd party. so me and daddy got to socialize while you slept in your carseat, then we got home around 1am. we were very glad we went out for new year's eve.
today we went to the baptism party of baby kahlani. we talked with a mom whose baby was born 6 weeks early and was in the NICU for a few weeks after he was born. i looked at your daddy and told him how grateful i was to have a healthy baby.
so much perspective this weekend, little baby. we really are lucky to have you in our lives.
love,
mommy
